Founding of AmbiSpace

AmbiSpace was founded in 2016 by multi-award winning sensory expert Kevin Wheatley. Since then, we have been dedicated to creating inclusive sensory spaces that enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities and special needs. Kevin's passion and drive to make a difference is the result of having experienced his own life-changing battle with ME (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). He is also a qualified lecturer with first-hand experience teaching young people with SEND who has appeared on the BBC as a Techspert talking about how classrooms of the future will change accessibility, engagement and learning through immersive and inclusive technology.

Sensory Nook

In 2018, we achieved a significant milestone working with Nook Wellness Pods to create and launch the first Sensory Nook. This self-contained sensory solution has revolutionised the way schools, care facilities, public spaces, and businesses provide sensory support to individuals with special needs and disabilities.

Another key moment for AmbiSpace came in 2018 when we were selected as finalists for the prestigious AV Awards' Education Project of the Year for one of our innovative sensory classroom projects in a special school in Liverpool. Being shortlisted for this international award alongside outstanding nominees reinforced our team's status as leaders in creative sensory design.

Fibre Optics Acquisition

In 2021, we expanded our ability to innovate and drive product quality by acquiring a fibre optics lighting business. This strategic move allows us to manufacture our own fibre optic lighting products in-house, further enhancing our ability to create immersive sensory experiences.

AmbiSpace was honoured to be nominated for two awards at the local North Lincolnshire Business Awards in 2023 - the Small Business of the Year and Innovation Award categories. These nominations celebrated our continual growth as a sensory design leader through our creative equipment offerings and progressive approach.

Move of Premises

In January 2024, AmbiSpace moved their operations to a new and much larger premises in Doncaster to meet growing demand for our Sensory Nooks, sensory room installations and fibre optic products. The new premises allows us to seamlessly manage every phase of project creating in-house from design and equipment fabrication through to project management. This milestone has enhanced our production capabilities and efficiency significantly.
